| Thisweb page describes another BJM Enterprises Home and/or Family ProductLine. The product is manufactured by BJM. This page shows a beautifulbirdhouse primarily designed for Bluebirds. Iit is designed with thecustomer's convenience of observation and maintenance in mind. The house is made of beautiful solid unfinished cedar. This is anatural wood without staining or painting generally liked by Bluebirds. The roof can be raised at any time for observation. There is a sidedoor that can be used for observation. However, the main advantage ofthe side door is to clean out the nest after the baby birds have flownaway. The Bluebirds wish to start a new nest every time. If thecustomer wishes to just have Bluebirds and not any other birds, thecustomer can open the side door and clean out the other birds nest sothe Bluebird will look at it. The Bluebird will not nest in anotherbird's nest. The natural beauty is enhanced by the outside of the house beingunfinished, unsanded rough exterior. The inside wood surfaces aresmooth, finished wood. The Bluebird does not like a perch. So, there isno perch. The Bluebird grabs the surface of the outside of the house. The grooves on the front of the house below the entrance hole make iteasier for the bird to grab the surface. These grooves are also on theinside of the house for the same purposes as the outside; but, it alsogives the assistance needed for the baby birds to motivate out of thehouse. The house can be put up in several ways. The simplest way is to mountit on a piece of pipe like 3/4" conduit. The pipe can be connected tothe house with two plastic conduit brackets and four screws. BJM offersa kit for sale using this method. The pipe is about 6 1/2 feet longwith a point on the end to make hammering it into the ground easier.Using this method, a hole does not have to be dug into the ground andthen refilled. Also, the house face can be easily rotated in the groundto re-position the house direction. The house is pre-drilled in therear of the house to accommodate this method. However, the customercould decide to use a piece of wood like a 2 X 4 and mount the houseagainst the post in a number of ways. The house should be positioned in the yard with as much open space aspossible in front of the house. The Bluebird does not like to be"crowded" with a lot of movement like moving branches and people. Thepole should be inserted into the ground just deep enough to let thecustomer be able to see the bird nest from the top. Some people have some concerns over squirrels, snakes, and othervarmints. If there are problems encountered, there are shields andother protection devices available in any good quality bird store. Thishouse has a metal ring built into the hole. This lengthens andstrengthens the entrance hole. It is difficult for a varmint to eatthrough a metal ring. This will discourage some predators and otherbirds. Bluebirds are small birds; so, not a lot of birds can go throughthe hole to nest. The overall size is 14 in. high (bottom of mount to topmost of roof) ,9 1/4 in. wide (roof width), and 10 1/2 in. deep (roof depth). Thehouse proper is 9 1/2 in. high at the mid point of the roof slant, 51/2 in. wide, and 7 in. deep. The hole size is a standard of 1 1/2inches in diameter. Like all woods exposed to outdoors all year, the cedar will turn colorto the characteristic gray of aged wood in one to two years. However, this wood does not rot; so it will last for many years. | ||
